Automatic livestock feeding
Breeding animals in Minecraft takes time when you have to hold food and feed every mob by hand. Animal Feeding Trough is a Java mod created by Slexom that simplifies farm management. It introduces a physical trough block designed to store animal food items in your pens.
Instead of waiting for you to walk around holding wheat or seeds, temptable animals search for the trough on their own. They eat from the container and breed without direct player intervention.
How the trough works in practice
The block works directly with standard mob temptation mechanics. Animals that can be tempted by food items will look around their surroundings for a feeding trough containing what they prefer. For example, chickens look for troughs stocked with seeds. Pigs and cows look for troughs holding carrots.
When an animal finds a trough filled with its favorite meal, it walks up to the block and eats. Honestly, the mod makes animals act as if a player fed them directly. After eating from the container, the mobs enter love mode and eventually breed.
This automation keeps your livestock pens running smoothly while you work on other building projects. You place valid food inside the trough and let the animals handle their own feeding schedule. On Modrinth, the project is listed under the adventure, mobs, and utility and quality of life categories. The author distributes the project under the terms of the MIT License.
Platform requirements and dependencies
Animal Feeding Trough must be installed on both the client side and the server side to function properly. It isn't a client-only or server-only utility.
The mod supports Fabric and Neoforge loaders. The specific Minecraft versions supported on the official project record are 26.2, 26.1.2, and 1.21.11.
You must also include the necessary mod dependencies in your game folder. The project requires Architectury API to operate. In addition, builds for Minecraft versions older than 1.19 require Fabric API.
