What It Does
AppleSkin doesn't change how hunger or saturation work in Minecraft. But it shows you numbers and bars the game normally hides. Hover over food in your inventory and you see its hunger and saturation values before you eat it. Hold food in your hand and the HUD shows how much hunger and saturation you would get, and how much health you would recover if you're low. The main hunger bar also gets a visual overlay showing saturation and exhaustion, and the F3 debug screen prints the same hunger, saturation and exhaustion numbers.
Who It Suits
This fits survival players who want to time their eating instead of guessing, and modpack builders who want more information on screen without touching any game mechanics. The author has said it's fine to include in any modpack.
Client and Server Setup
On its Modrinth listing, both the client side and the server side are marked optional, and that matches how the mod behaves. It runs on the client alone for the tooltips and the HUD overlay. Here's the thing, but per the project notes, it also needs to run on the server for the saturation and exhaustion values shown to the client to be accurate. If you are joining a vanilla, unmodded server and still want that sync, the project page points to separate third-party plugins built for that purpose. Those plugins aren't part of AppleSkin itself.
Compatibility
AppleSkin currently supports the Fabric and NeoForge loaders. The Minecraft versions listed as supported are 26.2, 26.1.2, 26.1.1, 26.1, 1.21.2, 1.21.1, 1.21, and 1.21.11. It ships under the Unlicense.
For Mod Developers
The project source also documents an API and an event bus that other mods can hook into to read or react to AppleSkin data. That side is aimed at developers building on top of the mod, not at players installing it.
