Was dieses Projekt macht

Role mechanics and visual cues

BDM adds three distinct gameplay roles to Minecraft. You can assign players to be Blind, Deaf, or Mute. Each status alters how a player interacts with the world and with others.

Blindness gives a player the standard in-game visual impediment and places a blue eye covering directly over their avatar. Deafness cuts off incoming audio through Simple Voice Chat while adding gray headphones to the player skin. Mute mode blocks outgoing microphone transmission and displays a red mouth covering on the character model.

Assigning someone a role doesn't trigger the effect immediately. An administrator must run the start command to turn on all assigned states at once. After that command runs, every connected client displays a roster in the top left corner of the screen. This interface element lists each affected player alongside their skin head and their active handicaps.

Management commands and developer tools

Server operators with permission level 2 manage the mod directly through chat commands. The /blind, /deaf, and /mute commands toggle individual restrictions for any targeted player. A /start command then applies those roles across the server.

The mod also includes built-in developer tools for testing and maintenance. That /bdm status and /bdm reload commands stay disabled until an operator authenticates with /dev <password>. Here's the thing, on its initial launch, the server creates a random 16-character password and writes it into config/bdm.json. Entering this password unlocks the developer commands for that active session. Running /bdm reload updates JSON configuration values, though voice-related adjustments still require a server reboot. The /bdm:test command stays inactive until you edit config/bdm.json, flip testCommandEnabled to true, and restart the server.

Installation requirements and configuration

BDM runs on the Fabric mod loader for Minecraft 1.21.11. Both the client and the dedicated server must install the mod.

You need Fabric API and Simple Voice Chat installed on both sides for audio integration to work. Mod Menu is optional if you want to see BDM in your client list. All role states reside on the server and synchronize down to each client automatically.

The primary configuration file is config/bdm.json. Inside this file, you can manage developer options, testing switches, and the voice UDP port. The voice port entry in config/bdm.json must match the port set in your Simple Voice Chat configuration. Testing with other players on a live server is necessary to verify the voice blocking features.
