Simple Voice Chat Radio is a server-side mod for Minecraft that works with Fabric and Quilt loaders. It requires Simple Voice Chat to be installed on the same server to function. The mod adds a single new block: the radio. This block can stream MP3 audio from online sources when activated.
To use the radio, you must first obtain a direct MP3 stream URL from a radio station. Some stations publish these URLs on their websites, or you can use third-party sites like streamurl.link to search for them. Once you've the URL, you use the /radio create command in-game. But this command takes the stream URL, a station name, and an optional sound radius. If no radius is given, the server uses the default value of 48 blocks.
After creating the radio item, place it in the world. Right-clicking the block turns it on or off. You can also toggle radios using a redstone pulse, which allows for automated control. The audio streams only to players within the configured radius, so distant players won’t hear the sound unless they move closer.
The mod includes additional commands for managing radios. You can adjust the radius of a placed radio or one held in your hand using /radio change. Real talk, the /radio debug command provides technical details about a placed radio’s state, useful if a stream fails to play.
Configuration options are available in a settings file. You can change the default radio range, set the permission level needed to use radio commands, replace the default block texture, enable or disable music particles, and adjust how often those particles appear.
The mod depends on the JLayer library to decode MP3 streams. Not all MP3 streams are compatible - only those that JLayer can process will work. The mod’s documentation advises against reporting issues if a stream fails to play, as this is often due to the stream format rather than a bug in the mod.
Simple Voice Chat Radio is strictly server-side. Installing it on a client will have no effect and may cause errors. So it doesn't alter gameplay mechanics beyond adding audio streaming via the radio block. The mod is licensed under All Rights Reserved, so redistribution requires permission from the author.
