What VTDownloader does
VTDownloader is a client-side Minecraft mod by IotaBread. It lets you pick and download Vanilla Tweaks resource packs directly from the Minecraft client, using the resource packs screen you already know.
The packs aren't the mod author's work. A project states that none of the content you can download through the mod was created by its author. Everything except the mod itself was created by the Vanilla Tweaks team.
How to use it
Open the resource packs selection screen and click the "Download VT Resource Pack" button. Pick the packs you want, then press download.
The pack is downloaded directly to your resource packs folder. Real talk, no moving files around is required.
You can also edit packs you've already downloaded from the resource packs screen. To do that, click the pencil icon.
Requirements and compatibility
The mod supports the Fabric and Quilt mod loaders. It requires Fabric API to work properly, so install Fabric API alongside the mod.
The Minecraft versions listed on the project are 26.2, 26.1, 1.21.11, 1.21.10, 1.21.8, 1.21.7 and 1.21.6. These are separate releases, not a continuous range. Check that your exact game version appears in that list before you install.
The project lists the client side as required and the server side as unsupported. In practice, that means the mod belongs on your own game client and not on a server.
The mod is licensed under the MIT License, and its source code is on GitHub.
Planned features
Downloading datapacks is listed as a planned feature on the project page. The GitHub readme lists that too, and it also names in-game pack version selection as planned.
Neither of these is available as a current feature, so don't rely on them yet.

The project credits Vanilla Tweaks and links to vanillatweaks.net. A readme also includes a note for the Vanilla Tweaks team. If the mod breaks any of their terms, the author asks to be notified through their Discord server.
