What the library does
Architectury API is an open source library written by shedaniel. It provides an abstraction layer between different mod loaders.
If you build mods for both Fabric and Forge or Neoforge, you know that each loader handles similar tasks differently. This library wraps those loader specific calls into shared interfaces. You write your logic once against common abstractions instead of maintaining separate hooks for each platform. That cuts down boilerplate code across your codebase.
The library is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only.
Features for developers
Architectury API gives mod creators shared systems across multiple areas of mod development.
It includes over 90 event hooks that let your code react to in-game actions across platforms. It also supplies abstractions for game registries, networking, and direct loader calls.
For platform specific code, the library includes the @ExpectPlatform annotation. This annotation only works on static methods. It lets you define a single method signature in shared code while calling loader specific implementations at runtime.
The project receives regular updates with added hooks and capabilities.
Ecosystem tools and usage
Architectury API is one piece of a broader tooling ecosystem. It works alongside Architectury Plugin, which is a Gradle plugin that handles multiplatform build actions.
Using this runtime API is optional even if you develop on the Architectury toolchain. Honestly, you can set up a project using only Architectury Plugin if your mod doesn't need the shared runtime helper methods.
The ecosystem also provides related developer resources:
Architectury Loom is a fork of Fabric Loom that adds multiplatform development support.
Architectury Plugin includes Architectury Injectables for processing the @ExpectPlatform annotation.
Mod Templates give developers starting project templates for the Architectury toolchain. The older Architectury Example Mod repository is discontinued, so template repositories are recommended instead.
In certain older releases, the library bundled typetools.
Compatibility and requirements
Architectury API is listed for Minecraft versions 26.3, 26.2, and 26.1.2.
Supported mod loaders in the project record are Fabric and Neoforge.
Both client and server environments require the mod when it is included in an installation.
