What it does

Extreme sound muffler is a client side mod that gives you control over individual game sounds instead of muting everything at once. You open its screen from a button that sits in your inventory, or you can bind it to a key if you'd rather skip clicking around. Once it's open you pick the specific sound you want gone, or just quieter, and adjust it from there.

Muting a sound

Each sound in the list gets its own volume slider, so you're not limited to a flat on and off switch. Drag it down as far as you like. There's also a play button next to each entry so you can hear what you're about to change before you commit to it. Honestly, that matters more than it sounds, because Minecraft has plenty of sounds with similar names and you don't want to guess wrong.

Anchors for ranged muting

Anchors handle a different problem, sounds you only want gone in one spot, not everywhere. You place an anchor at a location, and any muting tied to it only applies within a set range around that point. Anyone can rename an anchor and adjust its range after creating it, and if you ever want to move it, just press the marker button again and set a new position. And it suits situations like a noisy farm or machine you want quiet near, without silencing that same sound the rest of the world over.

Customization

Most of the mod's behavior can be changed in its config instead of being fixed. You can move the mute and play buttons to whichever side of the screen suits you, turn off anchors completely if you don't use them, and set a default volume for new mutes so you're not adjusting sliders from scratch every time. If the inventory button gets in your way, you can disable it outright, or hold right mouse button on it and drag it to a new spot instead. The project's GitHub page also lists a couple of extras not mentioned on its Modrinth listing, a dark mode you can turn on in the config, plus the ability to blacklist specific mods from showing up in the muffle screen and share one muffle list across multiple instances.

Compatibility

The mod runs on Fabric and Neoforge. It needs to be installed client side, and the project marks server side installation as optional, so it should work whether or not the server has it too. On Modrinth, it's listed against Minecraft 1.21.11, 26.3, 26.1.2 and 26.2 specifically, so treat that as the supported set rather than a continuous range. It's released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0.
