Our summary

What this project does

Dimension Viewer is a server-side Minecraft mod that displays each player's current dimension in the player list. It works on the server side only and requires installation on the server to function. The mod supports Forge, NeoForge, and Fabric loaders across Minecraft versions 1.21 through 1.21.11. Fabric users must also install Fabric API for the mod to load.

Once active, the mod adds the player's current dimension to their name in the tab list. By default, it shows the dimension after the player name, but this can be changed to appear before the name using the dimensionPosition setting. The display format is fully customizable using tokens in the listFormat option. You can apply bold, italic, underlined, strikethrough, or obfuscated styling to the dimension text. A literal percent sign can be included using %%.

Color customization is a core feature. You can set a default color for all dimensions or enable per-dimension coloring to assign unique colors to Overworld, Nether, End, and custom modded dimensions. Here's the thing, the mod accepts all vanilla Minecraft color names and supports custom colors defined in HEX or RGB format. For modded dimensions, colors are set using the modid:dim_id format, such as twilightforest:twilight_forest GOLD for Twilight Forest.

The mod also allows dimension names to be replaced with custom aliases. For example, you can rename 'Overworld' to 'The Grasslands' using the dimensionAliases setting. Aliases support the same formatting tokens as listFormat, so you can make only the Overworld name bold with minecraft:overworld %b%d. This feature must be enabled via the enableAliases toggle.

And the mod can show the dimension in a player's chat name when they send a message. This is controlled by the dimInChatName setting. When disabled, only the tab list reflects the dimension; chat names remain unchanged.

Configuration is done through a file located in the server's config folder. For (Neo)Forge, use dimensionviewer-common.toml; for Fabric, use dimensionviewer.json. Changes take effect immediately upon saving the file. The mod also includes slash commands for in-game configuration without editing files.

Dimension Viewer is intended for server administrators who want to improve player awareness of dimension travel, especially in modded environments with many custom dimensions. It provides no client-side features and doesn't alter gameplay mechanics - it only changes how player information is displayed in the UI.
