Elytra Physics

by OhHeyItsJosh

Elytra Physics brings cape-style movement to your worn elytra in Minecraft, replacing the stiff default appearance with active motion while running.

Our summary

What this project does

What the mod changes

Vanilla elytra look stiff and awkward when you run across the ground wearing them. Elytra Physics updates that visual behavior. And it adds cape-like physics to the elytra whenever a player wears it.

The wings move dynamically with your character instead of staying frozen on your back. It's a client-only visual adjustment. You don't need to install it on dedicated servers. In fact, server side installation is completely unsupported.

Custom layer configuration

Other mods often create custom wings or elytra items using their own layer renderers. Elytra Physics allows you to add physics support to those custom items through configuration.

The config file name depends on your mod loader. Forge installations use elytra_physics-client.toml. Fabric installations use elytra-physics-config.json. To support a custom elytra, add the classpath of its layer renderer to the inject_layers list.

Finding the classpath requires two pieces of information from the layer code. Take the package path located at the top of the.java file and append the name of the class. Several requested mod compatibilities are already included in the default configuration.

Resolving mixin conflicts

In some setups, you might encounter mixin conflicts with another mod. This can happen because of the cape and elytra snapping fix. If you see this error, turn off the prevent snapping option.

The recommended fix is straightforward. Temporarily disable the conflicting mod, launch your game, and turn off the option in the in-game config screen.

You can also edit configuration files manually. If you choose this route, you must adjust two separate files. Set the snapping_fix flag inside elytra_physics_mixin-flags.txt, and disable the prevent_snapping option in your primary configuration file.

Platform and version support

Elytra Physics is authored by OhHeyItsJosh under the MIT License. Look, the project belongs to the Equipment and Building & Decoration categories on Modrinth.

You can run the mod on Fabric, Forge, and Neoforge loaders. And it supports specific Minecraft versions: 26.2, 1.21.1, 1.21, 1.20.1, and 1.20. Client installation is required.
