What It Does
Highlight is a client-side mod that changes how the game outlines blocks when you look at them. Instead of the default rectangular selection box, blocks get a highlight shape that follows their actual model, angles included. If a block's model has slanted or irregular geometry, the outline now matches that shape instead of boxing it in. It doesn't touch gameplay, drops, or block behavior, only the outline you see when you aim at a block.
Who It's For
This is a mod for players who care about visual polish and precision when building. If you place blocks that have angled or non-cube shapes, you'll notice the selection outline lines up with what you actually see instead of a generic box around it. It's a small change, but it adds up when you're placing blocks precisely or just want the game to feel more accurate.
Compatibility
Highlight is built for Fabric and NeoForge. Honestly, and it runs on the client only. The project page lists server side as unsupported, so you don't need to install anything on the server for this to work. It supports a specific set of Minecraft versions: 26.2, 26.1.2, 26.1.1, 26.1, 1.21.11, 1.21.10, 1.21.9, 1.21.8, 1.21.7, 1.21.6, and 1.21.5. Each of those is a version the project explicitly lists, not a range, so if your version isn't on that list, the mod may not work as expected.
License and Contributing
Highlight is released under the MIT License. Anyone interested in contributing more block shapes can use an official Blockbench plugin, available through the Blockbench plugin marketplace, to generate the JSON files the mod needs to define new highlight shapes. Documentation for that contributor workflow is available separately.
Category
Highlight is filed under Building & Decoration, which fits its purpose. It's a purely visual mod, it doesn't add new blocks, items, or gameplay systems.
