ImmediatelyFast

by RaphiMC

A RaphiMC client side mod for Fabric, Quilt, Forge, and Neoforge that batches immediate mode rendering to boost FPS on CPU limited PCs with heavy entity, map, HUD, or text loads.

Our summary

What this project does

What It Does

ImmediatelyFast is a client side mod by RaphiMC that speeds up immediate mode rendering in Minecraft. It uses a custom buffer implementation that batches draw calls and uploads data to the GPU in a more efficient way. This batching applies broadly, covering entities, block entities, particles, text rendering, GUI and HUD elements, and immediate mode rendering used by other mods that share the same pipeline.

On top of that general batching, the mod also replaces parts of the vanilla rendering code with a more efficient implementation rather than just batching the existing calls. This targeted approach covers map rendering, HUD rendering, and text rendering.

Who It Helps

This mod is built for players whose frame rate is limited by their CPU rather than their GPU. If you notice drops around busy servers with lots of entities, chests, signs, or player made maps, and your GPU isn't already the bottleneck, for example from heavy shaders, ImmediatelyFast is aimed at that situation. Slower CPUs tend to see a bigger benefit than very fast ones, and the mod can't help in scenarios where the GPU is the limiting factor.

Measured Performance

RaphiMC published FPS comparisons for the areas the mod optimizes most, tested on a Ryzen 5 1600, 32GB of RAM, and a GTX 1060, using Minecraft 1.19.3.

For entity rendering, a Spigot server with 1000 cows in view went from 16 FPS to 60 FPS with no other mods, and from 21 FPS to 82 FPS alongside Sodium.

For map rendering, a Fabric server with the Image2Map mod showing around 930 maps went from 50 FPS to 310 FPS with no other mods, and from 47 FPS to 320 FPS alongside Sodium.

For HUD rendering, a Spigot server with a full set of HUD elements, including the scoreboard, potion overlay, boss bars, and a filled hotbar, went from 250 FPS to 380 FPS with no other mods, and from 335 FPS to 630 FPS alongside Sodium.

For text rendering, a Spigot server with 200 filled signs in view went from 70 FPS to 125 FPS with no other mods, and from 110 FPS to 300 FPS alongside Sodium.

For block entity rendering, a Spigot server with 400 chests in view went from 170 FPS to 205 FPS with no other mods, and from 315 FPS to 410 FPS alongside Sodium.

These figures come from the developer's own hardware and an older Minecraft version, so treat them as an indication of the kind of gain to expect rather than a guarantee for your own setup.

Compatibility and Requirements

ImmediatelyFast is client side required and server side unsupported. It supports the Fabric, Quilt, Forge, and Neoforge loaders, and lists support for Minecraft 1.21.1, 1.21, and 26.2.

The mod is designed to interfere with other mods as little as possible and should work with most mods and modpacks. Known incompatibilities include OptiFabric and OptiFine, along with most closed source clients such as LunarClient and LabyMod.

Configuration

A config file is generated in the config folder of your Minecraft instance. Here's the thing, it includes options such as font_atlas_resizing, map_atlas_generation, fast_text_lookup, and avoid_redundant_framebuffer_switching, letting you adjust the mod for performance or compatibility on your system.

ImmediatelyFast is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later.
