Mod Menu

by Prospector

Mod Menu adds an in-game client menu to browse installed mods, open config screens, check for updates, and organize modular add-ons on Fabric and Quilt.

Our summary

What this project does

Overview

Mod Menu adds an in-game interface to view all installed mods directly on your client. When a mod provides a config screen, this menu gives you direct access to open and edit those settings. The mod is created by Prospector and distributed under the MIT License. It operates strictly on the client side.

Core capabilities

The menu organizes your mod setup to keep it easy to browse. It filters library mods out of the main list by default so pure dependencies stay hidden unless you choose to display them. You can adjust all built-in features through deep configuration settings.

Mod Menu also includes a mod update checker. It looks for updates across mods hosted on Modrinth as well as mods that supply their own update sources. Mod descriptions support QuickText formatting through Patbox's Text Placeholder API. If you need localization, Mod Menu supports translatable mod names, summaries, and descriptions. Authors can provide translation keys in language JSON files to translate text into languages like Pirate Speak without writing Java code. A summary translation lets authors provide a separate single-sentence overview.

Developer metadata and customization

Mod authors can configure how their projects appear by adding custom metadata to fabric.mod.json. The badges array supports specific values, including library for dependencies and deprecated for legacy API modules. Mod Menu assigns the client badge automatically if a mod sets its environment field to client. Custom badge types aren't supported.

Authors can also add hyperlinks to their description through the links object. If a mod specifies a sources contact in its fabric metadata, Mod Menu places that link in the links section automatically. Link keys resolve through built-in translation strings or custom namespaces. Here's the thing, modular projects can use the parent field to group child mods under a single parent mod ID or a shared dummy parent object. In addition to JSON metadata and translation files, Mod Menu provides a Java API.

Requirements and compatibility

Mod Menu is a client-side mod and is unsupported on dedicated servers. It runs on the Fabric and Quilt mod loaders. Verified Minecraft versions in the project record include 26.3-rc-1, 26.3, 26.2, 26.1.2, 26.1.1, 26.1, 1.14.4, 26.3-snapshot-5, and 1.21.11.
