Move Subtitles

by Crendgrim

Move Subtitles lets you reposition Minecraft's subtitle text anywhere on screen using edge anchors and manual offsets.

Our summary

What this project does

Move Subtitles is a client-side mod for Minecraft that gives you control over where subtitle text appears on your screen. Instead of being stuck in the default bottom-center position, you can shift subtitles to any of the nine standard screen positions: top left, top center, top right, left center, right center, bottom left, bottom center, or bottom right.

The mod works by reading a configuration file generated on first launch. But this file contains an "edge" setting that picks one of those nine anchor points. From there, you can fine-tune the exact placement using two additional values: deltaX for horizontal adjustment and deltaY for vertical adjustment. These offsets let you nudge the subtitles a few pixels inward or outward from the chosen edge, giving you precise control over positioning.

This mod is useful if you play with a custom HUD, use a launcher that covers part of the screen, or simply find the default subtitle location distracting or hard to read. It does not alter how subtitles are generated or when they appear - it only changes where they are rendered on screen. Honestly, the mod doesn't require any server-side components and runs entirely on the client.

Move Subtitles is compatible with Minecraft versions ranging from 1.20 up to 1.21.11, including specific intermediate releases like 1.20.1, 1.20.2, 1.20.3, 1.20.4, 1.20.5, 1.20.6, and all 1.21.x versions up to 1.21.11. It supports the three major mod loaders: Forge, Fabric, and Neoforge. The mod is marked as client-side only, meaning it has no effect or function when installed on a server.

According to the author, the mod should be compatible with other mods that affect subtitles, such as Toggle Subtitles or Colourful Subtitles, though no guarantees are made beyond general compatibility. The mod is distributed under the GNU LGPLv3 license, and its source code is publicly available.

No performance benchmarks, FPS claims, or installation instructions are included in the verified sources, so those details are omitted here. The mod’s sole verified function is repositioning subtitle text via configurable edge anchors and offset values.
