Overview
Onioning API is a command scripting engine built for Minecraft 1.21.1 on the NeoForge mod loader. Created by CrinZonVortX_ and released under the MIT License, the mod turns standard Minecraft commands into a multi-layered visual programming format. You don't have to write standalone mods from scratch for custom logic.
The system relies on an onion-skin syntax. You place command layers inside other command layers. Here's the thing, each layer executes in sequence. It gives you structured, nested command logic that stays portable.
Core capabilities
The mod lets you pack multi-layered command expressions directly into item NBT data. You can build custom items that carry self-contained logic, such as standalone RPG spells. When an item triggers, the nested instructions execute straight from the item.
You can also bind specific targets during command runs. This helps you track which entities should receive effects or respond to scripts.
Disk caching is built right into the engine. The mod writes persistent coordinates and position data directly to JSON config files on disk. Instead of losing location references when chunks unload or servers restart, your scripts keep those points saved for later.
Who it is for
This API suits developers, mapmakers, and server administrators who manage custom mechanics.
Mapmakers can create adventure maps and custom magic spells without relying on external plugins. You can attach spells and special abilities straight to items in your world.
Server administrators can apply it to automation and server tasks. Writing nested scripts helps manage routine administration and custom events.
Developers can also treat the API as a base library when building larger NeoForge projects that require nested command flows.
Platform and requirements
Onioning API is built specifically for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge.
Both the client and the server must have the mod installed. It isn't a server-only or client-only utility. Make sure every player connecting to the server has the file in their local mods folder.
