Pluto is a free, open-source Forge mod that refines Minecraft's networking code, offering optional client and server support for versions 1.18.2, 1.19.2, and 1.19.3.

Our summary

What this project does

overview

Pluto rewrites parts of Minecraft's network stack to reduce latency and CPU load. So it is built as an unofficial fork of the Fabric mod Krypton, but runs on Forge. The author, AbdElAziz, based the changes on work from the Velocity proxy and Paper server projects.

features

  • Custom Netty handlers that borrow proven patterns from Velocity. The handlers have been profiled in real servers and include native code where it matters most.
  • Flush consolidation that cuts the number of write operations. This lowers the server's CPU usage and can shorten each tick.
  • Small-scale tweaks that shrink memory footprints and speed up packet serialization.

installation

Place the Pluto JAR file into the mods folder of a Forge installation that matches one of the supported Minecraft versions. No other mods or configuration steps are required.

compatibility

Pluto runs on Forge and supports Minecraft 1.18.2, 1.19.2, and 1.19.3. Both client and server sides are optional, meaning you can enable it on either side independently. Real talk, the mod is listed under the Performance category on Modrinth.

licensing and contributions

The code is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only. Because it's open-source, you may include Pluto in any modpack you create. Bugs, crashes, or feature ideas can be submitted through the issue tracker linked on the Modrinth page. Pull requests are welcomed.

Pluto is considered stable, though the author notes that issues may still appear. Since it's an unofficial fork, support is provided directly by the author rather than the original Krypton team.
