RoadWeaver

by shiroha

RoadWeaver automatically builds road networks between villages and structures using smart pathfinding, Bezier curves, and biome-adaptive materials. Runs on Fabric, Neoforge, and Forge for Minecraft 1.21.1 and 1.20.1.

Our summary

What this project does

What it doesRoadWeaver connects villages and other structures with generated roads that follow the terrain instead of cutting straight lines through it. You enter a world and the mod starts planning routes in the background, using multiple pathfinding algorithms that weigh slope, biome type, and ground stability. The result is a network that curves naturally, climbs with slab transitions, tunnels through hills, and bridges across water.## Road generationThe mod offers two road families. Artificial roads use blocks like stone bricks, slabs, dirt, or mud bricks - you can mix them in a built-in preset editor. Natural roads pick materials that match the biome they pass through. Both types apply Bezier smoothing to raw polyline paths so you get gentle arcs instead of sharp corners. Obstacle handling cuts high ground, fills low ground, and clears trees. Foundations only fill when the road sits above the original surface, creating convex slopes that blend into the landscape.## Decorations and customizationRedstone lamps line the roads and toggle automatically with the day-night cycle. Signposts mark distances and directions. Benches, campfires, and other small structures spawn at random intervals along the shoulders. The preset editor lets you define custom block palettes for artificial roads, and you can choose between three network planning algorithms - KNN for sparse connections, Delaunay for dense webs, or RNG for a middle ground - plus three pathfinders: A*, bidirectional A*, and a fluid simulation approach.## Configuration and debuggingPress H to open a visual map that shows planned, generating, completed, and failed segments in different colors. You can drag, zoom, right-click to teleport, and read statistics on road count, length, and status. A manual link mode lets you draw your own network if the automatic planner misses something you want. Settings live in a Cloth Config screen reachable from the world creation menu or the H-map overlay. Generation runs in dedicated thread pools so the main thread only applies finished chunks.## Compatibility notesRoadWeaver works with Tectonic V2, Epic Terrain, and Terralith. And it doesn't work with Tectonic V3. Mods that overhaul vanilla mechanics such as TerraFirmaCraft: The Next Generation are incompatible. Symptoms of incompatibility include extremely slow generation, blank or slow map loading, and roads that appear on the map but not in the world. Performance depends on terrain complexity, pathfinding step size and weight settings, and the number of concurrent generation threads.
