Slyde

by JFronny

Slyde is a Fabric client-side mod that removes hard limits on Minecraft option sliders, allowing extreme FOV and gamma values for creative or accessibility purposes.

Our summary

What this project does

Overview

Slyde is a utility mod for Minecraft that modifies how the game's option sliders behave. In the standard client, sliders for settings like Field of View (FOV) and Gamma have fixed minimum and maximum values defined by Mojang. Slyde removes these hard caps, allowing players to drag the slider handles past their intended endpoints. This enables values that are technically possible within the game's rendering engine but aren't accessible through the default user interface.

The mod is designed for players who want to explore visual extremes. This includes content creators seeking specific cinematic looks, accessibility users who require higher brightness levels than the default maximum allows, or anyone interested in experimenting with how the game renders under unusual conditions. Because the mod bypasses standard safety limits, it isn't intended for players who prefer a strictly vanilla experience or those who don't want to risk visual instability.

How It Works

Slyde operates entirely on the client side. It does not require any server-side installation or support. The mod integrates with the Fabric mod loader and is compatible with a specific range of Minecraft versions. According to the project records, it supports Minecraft versions 1.21.8, 1.21.9, 1.21.10, 1.21.11, 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, 26.2, and 26.3. So it doesn't support Forge or NeoForge.

The core function is simple: it extends the range of the slider widgets in the options menu. When you drag a slider, Slyde allows the value to continue increasing or decreasing beyond the point where the vanilla game would stop. This applies to various options, though the most commonly cited examples are FOV and Gamma. The mod doesn't change the underlying game logic for these settings; it simply allows the user to input values that the standard UI would otherwise reject.

Risks and Limitations

The project author explicitly warns that using Slyde can break the game if you're not careful. That mod doesn't validate the values you set against the game's internal stability limits. For example, changing the target resolution outside its intended slider range will cause an immediate crash. Other settings may produce visual artifacts, rendering errors, or unstable behavior. Users are advised to back up their worlds before experimenting with extreme values.

There's also a separate companion mod called Slyde More. But this is a distinct project that works in conjunction with Slyde. Slyde More allows dragging sliders without a screen width limit, meaning you can drag the slider handle off the edge of the screen to reach even more extreme values. Real talk, slyde More is a separate download and tracks newer snapshots independently from the main Slyde project.

Compatibility

Slyde is licensed under the MIT License. It's a client-side required mod, meaning it must be installed on the player's client to function. It is unsupported on the server side. The mod is built for the Fabric loader. If you're using a different mod loader, this mod won't work. The supported Minecraft versions are discrete releases and snapshots listed in the project record, including the 1.21.x series and the 26.x snapshot series.
