Our summary

What this project does

Overview

Sodium Extra is a companion addon created by FlashyReese for Sodium. The modification introduces features that aren't included within standard Sodium. You will need to download Sodium for this mod to work.

On the technical side, client side installation is required, while server side installation is unsupported. Look, the mod runs on the Fabric and Neoforge mod loaders. Supported Minecraft versions are 26.3, 26.2, 26.1.2, and 1.21.11.

Visual and Performance Settings

Sodium Extra aims to bring most of OptiFine's visual settings to Sodium, while also providing visual bug fixes and performance options that aren't yet available on Sodium.

The mod introduces several structured configuration menus to customize in-game visuals:

  • Animations Settings: Gives players control over fire, water, lava, and block animations.
  • Particles Settings: Allows management of all particle types, including particles introduced by other mods.
  • Details Settings: Offers control over the sky, stars, sun, moon, and weather.
  • Render Settings: Configures fog, static entities, and miscellaneous rendering elements.
  • Extra Settings: Provides toggles to display an FPS counter, show on-screen coordinates, adjust clouds, and manage toast notifications.

Protected Gameplay Fog

Sodium Extra includes a protected gameplay fog system that adjusts blindness, darkness, lava, powder snow, and water fog.

On normal multiplayer servers, these fog adjustments stay vanilla unless authorized by the server through Greenlight with the client mod installed. Server owners can authorize Sodium Extra's protected gameplay fog controls using a server resource pack policy and the Greenlight client mod.

Building and Translation

If you choose to build Sodium Extra from source code, you will need Java Development Kit 17 or above along with Git. Launching a build using Gradle compiles the resulting artifacts into the build/libs directory.

Localization is supported through volunteer contributions on Crowdin. Translators can submit translations, suggest alternative phrasing, or vote on existing translations. By submitting translations, contributors agree to license their contributions under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license.

Licensing and Distribution

Sodium Extra is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 (GNU LGPLv3). The project is free and open-source, and you can include it in modpacks as long as you provide attribution.
