Spawn-Proofed Villagers

by Estecka

Spawn-Proofed Villagers stops hostile mobs from spawning near villagers. It uses the same 24-block radius as players and works on Fabric for Minecraft 1.19.4 through 1.21.10.

Our summary

What this project does

What It Does

Villagers in Minecraft are vulnerable. Hostile mobs can spawn right next to them, especially at night or in dark areas. Spawn-Proofed Villagers fixes this by treating villagers like players for spawn protection purposes. When a hostile mob tries to spawn within a certain distance of a villager, the game prevents it. This keeps your village safe without you having to stand there or build complex light structures.

The mod doesn't change how players work. So this spawn-proofing radius for players remains exactly as it is in vanilla Minecraft. This mod only adds that same protection to villagers. It's a simple, targeted fix for a specific annoyance.

How It Works

The default spawn-proofing radius is 24 blocks. This is the same distance the game uses to prevent hostile mobs from spawning near players. You can change this number if you want a larger or smaller safe zone. The setting is available through gamerules, so you can adjust it in your world configuration without needing a GUI or complex setup.

Not every mob is affected. Iron Golems and Cats can still spawn near villagers. This is because these mobs aren't natively prevented from spawning by the presence of players in vanilla Minecraft. The mod respects this native behavior. It only blocks the mobs that are normally stopped by player proximity.

Compatibility and Requirements

This mod is designed for the Fabric mod loader. It does not support other loaders like Forge or NeoForge. You need Fabric to run it.

It's a server-side mod. This means the mod must be installed on the server for it to work. You don't need to install it on your client if you are joining a server that has it. If you're playing single-player, you need it on your client because your client acts as the server.

The mod supports lots of Minecraft versions. Real talk, and it works on 1.19.4, 1.20, 1.20.1, 1.20.2, 1.20.3, 1.20.4, 1.20.5, 1.20.6, 1.21, 1.21.1, 1.21.2, 1.21.3, 1.21.4, 1.21.5, 1.21.6, 1.21.7, 1.21.8, 1.21.9, and 1.21.10. Check your specific Minecraft version to ensure it's on this list before installing.

The project is licensed under the MIT License. This allows for broad use and modification, but you should always check the specific license terms for your use case.

Who It's For

This mod is for anyone who builds villages and gets frustrated by mobs spawning on their villagers. It's useful for survival players who want a safer village without constant lighting. It is also good for server admins who want to protect player-built villages from random mob spawns. If you play on a server, ask the admin if they have it installed, as it's server-side.

The mod is lightweight and focused. It does one thing and does it well. What you get doesn't add new mobs, change villager behavior, or alter other game mechanics. The result just stops hostile spawns near villagers. If that's what you need, it's a straightforward addition to your modpack.
