Our summary

What this project does

Overview and Purpose

YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL) is a builder-based configuration library for Minecraft developed by isxander. Released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, YACL is marked on Modrinth as optional for both client-side and server-side environments, falling under the Libraries & APIs and Utility & Quality of Life categories.

The library was created to provide a modern configuration solution for Fabric modding, resolving shortcomings found in existing alternatives such as Cloth Config API, SpruceUI, and OwoLib. Taking design inspiration from Sodium's internal configuration framework, YACL provides an easy API while crafting user interfaces styled to blend naturally into the Minecraft GUI aesthetic across game updates.

Configuration Widgets and Visual Features

YACL supplies a full suite of configuration controls designed for flexible user input. Mod developers can construct their own custom controllers whenever the default collection does not fit their requirements. Out of the box, the library supports multiple controllers for common data types:

  • Numbers can be adjusted through interactive sliders or standard text entry fields.
  • Strings can be configured using dropdown menus, value cyclers, or raw text fields.
  • Booleans can be toggled via tickboxes or ON/OFF text indicators.
  • Colors can be selected using a fully-featured color picker.

In addition to standard inputs, YACL delivers rich descriptions for setting entries. Developers can include clickable and hoverable text powered by the vanilla Text component system. Entries can also display static or animated WebP image previews, or use a custom rich-renderable section as a direct replacement for preview images.

Organization and Developer Experience

To keep complex settings accessible and clean, YACL structures configuration screens using top-level category tabs and collapsible groups. The user interface provides full compatibility for keyboard navigation, optimized for Controlify usage.

For backend configuration handling, the library incorporates built-in serialization and deserialization techniques, allowing developers to bypass error-prone custom file handling code. Developers writing in Kotlin can also take advantage of an alternative Kotlin DSL for assembling configuration screens. Look, complete guides and usage documentation are hosted on the project wiki and documentation site.

Loader and Platform Support

YACL relies on the Stonecutter build tool to maintain distinct targets released simultaneously as separate builds. The project supports Fabric and NeoForge mod loaders. While earlier builds included Forge on 1.20.1, support for Forge was not continued for releases past 1.20.1. Modrinth records indicate support for Minecraft versions 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, 26.2, and 26.3.
