What the mod does
Exploring dark caves often means placing rows of torches on every wall. LambDynamicLights changes how light works in your world. When you're holding a torch or a lantern in your hand, it shines light into the surrounding area without needing you to place it on a block. Any entity holding an item that produces light will emit light into the space around it.
Dropped items that normally emit light as blocks also cast dynamic light around them while resting on the ground. A dropped torch or glowstone dust lights up a pitch-black pit before you jump in, so you don't step into danger.
Light sources and mob behaviors
The mod applies dynamic lighting to many creatures and objects across the game. Entities on fire emit light as they move. Several mobs and projectiles also produce light on their own. You'll see natural lighting from allays, blazes, magma cubes, fireballs, spectral arrows, and glow squids.
Explosions become more visible beforehand. Creepers emit light progressively when an explosion is imminent, giving you a clearer visual cue when they're about to detonate. Honestly, guardian lasers also produce dynamic light. In addition, flying firefly particles emit light in the air as they travel.
Some realistic limits still apply. Items like standard torches and soul torches won't light up while submerged in water.
Configuration and custom packs
You can change settings to select how smoothly dynamic lighting updates in your game. Access the configuration menu through your video settings or through your mods list.
Resource pack creators can customize item lighting definitions to support custom items and modded content. The mod includes an API for developers and resource pack makers who want to hook their own items or custom entity lighting into the system. Separate community projects such as Illuminated and Beltborne Lanterns integrate with LambDynamicLights to add handheld flashlights and wearable belt lanterns.
Installation and loader support
LambDynamicLights is a client-side mod. It's required on your game client and unsupported on dedicated servers. It works on the Fabric, NeoForge, and Quilt mod loaders across Minecraft versions 1.21, 1.21.1, 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, 26.2, and 26.3.
Installing the mod is straightforward. On Fabric, put the mod file in your mods folder alongside Fabric API and ModMenu. On NeoForge, place the mod in your mods folder. You can also install Sodium alongside it on either loader if you want better performance.
