What it does
More Hitboxes is a small library that gives mod developers the ability to give mobs more than one hitbox. The hitboxes can be defined in datapacks and, if the developer wants, tied to bones or animations from GeckoLib. When a hitbox is marked as an attack box it can hit players, but that feature only works on the client side.
Who it suits
If you're a modder who wants to give a creature a more realistic collision shape or create a hit-box-based combat mechanic, this library is the tool you need. It's also useful for players who rely on other mods that depend on this library; they will need to install the correct loader version for their Minecraft build.
Supported environments
The mod is available for Fabric and NeoForge. But it requires both client and server side code. Look, what you get works with Minecraft 1.21.1, 1.20.6, 1.20.1, 1.19.4, and 1.19.3.
Key features
- Multiple hitboxes - Define more than one hitbox per entity through datapacks.
- GeckoLib integration - Optionally attach hitboxes to GeckoLib bones or animations.
- Attack boxes - Mark a hitbox as an attack box that can hit players; this is client-side only.
- Blockbench plugin - A helper tool to create hitboxes in the Blockbench editor.
Limitations
- The default bounding box is still used for collision, so the library doesn't replace the original hitbox.
- Movements driven by GeckoLib aren't synchronized to the server. That means attack boxes only work for players on the client.
How to get it
Download the Fabric or NeoForge build that matches the Minecraft version you're running. Add the library as a dependency in your mod’s build script to use its features.
Documentation
The main documentation is hosted on GitHub and includes additional information in the Javadoc once the dependency is added to your build script.
