Nether Portal Spread changes what happens when you build a nether portal. Instead of just a frame, the mod causes nether-themed blocks to slowly appear in the overworld around the portal. This spread happens in a radius you can set, starting from the moment the portal is first used or detected after loading an old world. The effect isn't instant. Blocks convert over time based on a delay timer in the config, measured in game ticks. By default, stone turns into netherrack most often, with smaller chances for magma block or nether quartz ore. Other overworld blocks like grass, dirt, sand, and gravel also convert, each with their own set of possible nether outcomes defined in a spreadsettings.txt file. You control what spreads, how far, and how fast. The mod does not run on the client alone; it requires server-side installation to work in multiplayer or singleplayer with integrated server. It supports Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt loaders. The listed Minecraft versions are specific point releases: 26.3, 26.2, 26.1.2, 26.1.1, 26.1, 1.21.11, 1.21.10, and 1.21.9. These aren't ranges - each version must be explicitly supported as shown. You can stop the spread by placing a certain number of blocks within the radius. By default, four coal blocks prevent further conversion. When the spread starts or stops, nearby players get chat messages. These messages can be turned off or customized in the config, and they can include the portal’s coordinates if desired. If a portal is destroyed, another message plays to signal the spread has ended. The mod saves portal data to a folder in your world save, so it only checks known portals instead of scanning the entire world, which improves performance on large maps. Version 4.4 and later includes compatibility with the Immersive Portals mod, meaning the spread works correctly even when using that mod’s smooth portal transitions. All configuration happens through files in the config/netherportalspread/ directory. You edit spreadsettings.txt to change which blocks convert to what and with what weight. The mod reads these weights and turns them into probability chances. No other loaders, versions, or side requirements are supported beyond what is explicitly listed.
