What It Does
Player Locator Plus adds a compass style tracker to your experience bar so you can see where other players are without opening a map. It's built to replace or sit alongside the vanilla locator bar, and it runs on Fabric.
How It Works
Each player gets a colored marker pointing toward them on your exp bar. By default the color comes from the player's UUID, so it's random but consistent for each person. Admins can change that in the config: markers can follow team colors, or every player can pick their own with the /plp color command, or everyone can share one fixed color.
Markers for far away players can fade as the distance grows, instead of staying at full opacity the whole time. The mod can also show small arrows over a marker when there's a real height difference between you and the tracked player.
Players aren't tracked unconditionally. Crouching, wearing a carved pumpkin, or having the invisibility effect all hide a player from the locator. Wearing a mob head or player head can hide them too, and server owners can edit the exact list of hiding items through a datapack.
Configuration
Settings live in config/player-locator-plus.toml, or in a config screen if Mod Menu is installed. The server side has its own switches: it can turn the whole feature on or off, cap the maximum tracking distance, and control how precise the direction readout is. Lowering that precision makes tracking rougher, which is meant as a guard against players triangulating someone's exact position. There's also a setting for how often the compass updates, which changes how smooth distant players look as they move.
Server owners can push their config to connected clients, overriding local client settings when that option is on. Look, there's also a toggle that lets players without the mod installed still receive a vanilla locator waypoint for tracked players.
Who It's For
This fits multiplayer servers that want player tracking without installing a full map mod, or that want more control over how visible players are to each other than the vanilla locator bar gives. Because the server side is required, it's aimed at server admins who can install and configure it, not single player use.
Compatibility
Player Locator Plus only supports Fabric. It's confirmed to work on Minecraft 1.21, 1.21.1, 1.21.2, 1.21.3, 1.21.4, 1.21.5, 1.21.6, 1.21.7, 1.21.8, 1.21.9, and 1.21.10. The client side is optional, but the server side is required for the mod to function. It's released under the GNU General Public License version 3 or later.
