Custom Item Texture Functionality
CIT Resewn re-creates the custom item texture features originally introduced by MCPatcher and OptiFine for the Fabric mod loader. In standard resource packs, custom item textures alter an item's visual appearance whenever specific criteria are satisfied. CIT Resewn delivers this capability as an independent modification that operates without needing OptiFine or MCPatcher. And the project intends to expand the system by introducing new condition rules and texture types.
Architecture and Configuration
The project is architected into two separate components. That core CIT Resewn mod acts as an application programming interface for defining new types and trigger conditions. Alongside the core mod, CIT Resewn: Defaults uses this API to implement the traditional types and conditions native to the custom texture format.
To maintain compatibility with existing resource packs, configuration properties files are discovered within three asset directories:
assets/minecraft/citresewn/citassets/minecraft/optifine/citassets/minecraft/mcpatcher/cit
Resource packs created before the Flattening that rely on legacy numeric item identifiers are incompatible because the mod requires text identifiers. And certain legacy packs place files into malformed directory paths containing characters other than lowercase letters, digits, periods, underscores, and hyphens. CIT Resewn includes an experimental setting allowing broken path resolution, though enabling it's explicitly discouraged.
Compatibility and Platforms
CIT Resewn is licensed under the MIT License and operates as a client-side mod. It is required on the client and is unsupported on dedicated servers. The modification supports the Fabric loader across Minecraft versions 1.19.4, 1.20, 1.20.1, 1.20.2, 1.20.4, 1.21, and 1.21.1. Here's the thing, it does not provide support for Forge or OptiFine.
While the mod functions independently without auxiliary performance modifications, the developer actively works to maintain compatibility with Sodium. Other graphical rendering mods, such as Canvas, carry no official guarantee beyond an unverified "if it works it works" status.
Distribution and Documentation
Precompiled binary releases of CIT Resewn are obtainable via Modrinth and CurseForge, or by building the project directly from source code. Developers can integrate the base API and the defaults module into their projects using Modrinth's Maven repository under cit-resewn and cit-resewn-defaults.
