Watering Cans [Dew Drop]

Manual Crop Hydration

This mod replaces the passive farmland hydration mechanic with active tool use. You craft watering cans using a full bucket of water and a material of your choice. Netherite cans require an upgrade template. The design draws inspiration from Stardew Valley, aiming for a more immersive farming loop where you physically water your crops.

Tiered Abilities

The cans come in different tiers, each with distinct capabilities. Iron and higher tiers feature a "Super" ability. Crouch and hold the use button to charge the can. Releasing it waters a large area at once. Higher tiers allow for longer charge times and larger coverage areas. This lets you manage larger farms without walking every row.

Growth and Refilling

Watering crops has a chance to accelerate their growth, similar to using bonemeal. This probability is configurable. You can set it to always trigger, never trigger, or remain at the default chance. Refilling is straightforward: use the can on a water source. If you prefer infinite water, you can apply the Unbreakable tag to the item.

Nether Compatibility

Water usually evaporates quickly in the Nether. Look, the Netherite Watering Can is an exception. It retains water long enough to hydrate crops in harsh environments. This allows for Nether farming setups without constant refilling. You can configure whether all cans or only specific ones work in the Nether.

Additional Interactions

The cans interact with other blocks beyond farmland. They can douse fires. The developers mention other special interactions exist and invite suggestions for new ones. All these mechanics are controlled via server configuration, allowing admins to tweak the size and shape of ability ranges and other behaviors.

Compatibility and Requirements

This mod requires both client and server installation. It supports Forge and NeoForge. The supported Minecraft versions are 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. It is part of the Dew Drop project. While it works in any survival world, the author recommends pairing it with Dew Drop: Sturdy Farmland and Dew Drop: Daily Weather for the intended experience. A separate resource pack exists for those who want the visual models in vanilla worlds.
