What Embeddium Does
Embeddium is a free and open-source client-side performance mod created by FiniteReality. The project builds directly on the last FOSS release of Sodium, specifically Sodium 0.5.8. It brings over the core rendering overhaul from that baseline, including a rewritten terrain renderer and rendering pipeline updates for block entities, entities, and graphical user interfaces.
The fork exists to prioritize mod compatibility and general stability in modded setups. You get regular patch updates when bugs get reported, along with extra integration hooks for developers.
Platform Support and Requirements
You must run Embeddium strictly on the client. Server installations are unsupported. Verified mod loaders include Forge and NeoForge. Real talk, verified game releases include 1.20.1, 1.21.1, and 1.21.4.
Under the hood, Embeddium is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0. Certain interface elements use code from FlashyReese's Reese's Sodium Options under the MIT license.
Mod Compatibility and Extra Settings
Many Sodium forks struggle when complex mod combinations interact with custom rendering layers. Embeddium addresses this by incorporating built-in support for the Fabric Rendering API. Because this handling is already integrated, you don't need Indium. In fact, Indium won't work alongside Embeddium.
The mod also includes an optional setting for translucency sorting. If you want sorted translucent surfaces, you can turn that option on directly inside your Video Settings menu.
Reporting Bugs and Upstream Boundaries
Even though Embeddium originates from the Sodium codebase, CaffeineMC doesn't maintain or support it. Do not submit bug tickets or join the CaffeineMC Discord server to report problems with Embeddium. Instead, use the Embeddium repository issue tracker to report bugs.
