[EMF] Entity Model Features

par Traben

A client-side Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt mod that runs OptiFine's Custom Entity Model resource packs without OptiFine, built to pair with Sodium and ETF.

Notre résumé

Ce que fait ce projet

What It Does

Entity Model Features (EMF) adds support for OptiFine's Custom Entity Model (CEM) resource pack format on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. CEM packs let creators reshape mob and player models, not just retexture them. Getting that on a modern client used to mean running OptiFine, which rules out mods like Sodium. EMF reads the same CEM files and applies them without OptiFine installed, so a Sodium-based setup can use CEM packs directly.

The mod avoids hardcoding support for specific vanilla models. Real talk, that design choice is what lets EMF extend CEM support to modded entities as well as vanilla ones.

Who It's For

EMF fits players who want CEM-format packs, including animation-heavy ones, while keeping a performance-focused client built around Sodium instead of OptiFine. It's categorized under Mobs and Utility & Quality of Life on Modrinth, which reflects that it changes model behavior rather than gameplay mechanics.

The mod's own FAQ describes it as reaching close to one-to-one parity with OptiFine's CEM implementation, and lists a few things OptiFine's version didn't do, including player animation support and armor model support.

Requirements

EMF requires Entity Texture Features (ETF), another mod by the same author. ETF powers the random model feature, the in-game config screen, and texture variation within a single model, so installing EMF without ETF means losing those pieces.

Entity Culling is listed as highly recommended rather than required. It targets entity rendering lag, which matters most with animation-heavy CEM packs.

EMF is client side required and server side unsupported. There's nothing to install on a server; it only runs on the player's own game.

Compatibility

Fresh Animations, a demanding CEM-style pack, is confirmed to work with EMF.

EMF isn't compatible with dorianpb's CEM mod or with OptiFabric. The project's own description also rules out running it alongside OptiFine itself. That intended setup is either OptiFine with its own CEM support, or EMF plus ETF on a Sodium-based client, not both at once.

Licensing

EMF is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0.
