What Factory API is
Factory API is a Java mod created by omo50 under the MIT License. The project sits in the Libraries and APIs category as well as the Utility and Quality of Life category. It provides shared systems across several mod loaders. If you run mods like Factocrafty, this API provides the foundational code those mods depend on.
The mod functions on both sides of the game. That means you must install it on the client and on the server. It doesn't act as standalone gameplay content on its own. Instead, it provides developers and resource pack authors with common tools.
Interface tools for packs and code
A major part of Factory API focuses on screen definitions. Its primary function lets resource pack creators add or modify screen elements and graphical user interfaces through pack assets.
Mod developers can also adjust or register interface elements through direct code. Here's the thing, this gives you two ways to handle user interfaces.
Networking, events, and storage
The mod includes a common networking pipeline. You can register and transmit payloads in a unified manner across supported versions with almost zero modifications.
It also introduces essential events that abstract functions directly from the underlying mod loaders.
For resource management, Factory API supplies common implementations for item storage, fluid storage, and energy storage. It exposes these implementations through the appropriate loader APIs so other mods can interact with them.
In addition, the mod provides a method for block lighting levels to access Level data on Fabric. Forge and NeoForge already include this capability, so the custom lighting feature applies specifically to Fabric.
Supported environments
Factory API supports three mod loaders: Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge.
The project works on three specific Minecraft versions: 26.1.2, 1.21.8, and 1.21.5. You must place it on both the client side and the server side.
