Custom models for Millenaire villagers
MillenaireVillagerExpansion is a utility mod created by momomomo for Minecraft 1.21.1 on the Neoforge mod loader. But it requires Millenaire 9.0.0 to run. The mod operates on both the client side and the server side under the MIT License.
Standard Millenaire villagers stick to their default looks. This mod changes that. It lets you render Millenaire villagers as other biological entity models through custom configuration files.
Configuration and tags
You assign new models by editing villager configuration files inside your millenaire-custom folder. Adding the inner_entity tag with an entity identifier points the villager to that chosen model.
Fine tuning happens through the inner_nbt tag. Here's the thing, you can declare several parameters:
- sync_box updates the collision box every single tick. Use this for non-humanoid shapes, though it brings a minor performance cost.
- rewrite attempts to rewrite meaningful NBT values, like waking up an Ancient Remnant. Because Cataclysm uses uppercase keys, case compatibility is handled by using lowercase values throughout.
- put handles direct, case-sensitive NBT injection. It overwrites existing keys or inserts missing ones. The author notes that rewrite rarely takes effect, so put offers a stronger alternative.
- battle_ai is an experimental setting. When a villager enters combat, it attempts to trigger the target model's own AI to fight.
Touhou Little Maid and YSM setup
You can also link maid models from Touhou Little Maid using inner_nbt properties. Set ModelId to pick the specific maid model. If your model uses YSM or Bedrock-style 3D animations with higher volumetric detail, you must set ysm to true to avoid animation mapping issues.
When using models from the YSM mod on a maid, you must add chained declarations with a ModelId other than reimu. Required parameters include IsYsmModel set to true, YsmModelId with escaped quotes around the zip filename, and YsmModelName. Optional keys include YsmModelTexture, YsmRoamingVars, YsmRouletteAnim, and YsmRoamingUpdateFlag.
Animation adapters
Advanced users can configure explicit animation adapters in the config directory under millenairevillageexpansion/adapters. Inspecting these setup files requires unpacking the mod jar file. The author recommends having development or modding experience before touching adapter configs.
