Portable and placeable storage
Sophisticated Backpacks adds wearable storage bags you can carry or set down in the world as blocks. When held in your hand, you open the pack by right clicking. You can also press B to open it directly. Hovering over the pack in your inventory and pressing the open key opens it too. When equipped in your chest slot, the backpack renders directly on your character model.
Placing the pack on the ground requires sneak right clicking a block. Once placed, you can access its contents like any standard container. Honestly, you pick it back up by sneak right clicking with an empty hand or by breaking it like a standard block.
Six tiers and automation
You upgrade the pack through six distinct tiers: Leather, Copper, Iron, Gold, Diamond, and Netherite. Higher tiers give you more storage slots and more upgrade slots. While placed as a block in the world, the backpack connects to automated item systems. You can move items in and out using hoppers, pipes, or other modded inventory tools.
Custom colors
You can dye backpacks using a crafting grid. The mod supports two distinct color areas on each pack: a main color and an accent color.
Dyes on the left side of the crafting grid change the main color. Dyes on the right side change the accent color. Dyes placed in the same column as the backpack tint both parts together. You can wash colors off by right clicking a water cauldron. If you've Sophisticated Storage installed, you can also color packs using its Decoration Table.
Upgrades and world spawns
The mod includes functional upgrades, such as the Pickup Upgrade. This upgrade collects items automatically based on a filter. When you wear the pack, items you walk over go straight inside. When placed in the world, the bag pulls in nearby items that touch it.
You can also find backpacks and upgrades in world loot chests. Sometimes hostile or neutral mobs spawn wearing backpacks. These packs can hold items, and mobs might play a musical tune when they appear.
