World spawns and trainer battles
Radical Cobblemon Trainers spawns over 1500 distinct NPC trainers across various biomes in your world. These battle teams are pulled straight from Pokemon ROM hacks Radical Red (v3.02) and Unbound (v2.0.3.2), as well as Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. All character textures are generated procedurally in advance. Because of that design choice, the NPC skins do not copy specific individuals.
You run into different opponents depending on where you walk. Some biomes hold basic challengers, while others spawn tough encounters.
Progression and the Trainer Card
You start your journey by finding the Trainer Association. After picking a path, you battle through rivals and gym leaders on your climb to champion status.
The mod limits player progression through hard level caps. Your party pokemon can't gain experience points once they hit the active level threshold. To raise that cap and earn more experience, you have to defeat the next required key trainer, like a gym leader.
You can track every step using the Trainer Card item. The card stores your battle progress and shows opponent information. When a required key trainer spawns nearby, the card guides you to their exact spot so you can increase your level cap.
Endgame activities
The challenge does not stop once you defeat the champion. High-level trainers continue to spawn in the world, giving you access to better loot drops. You can also rerun and finish multiple trainer series to earn a permanent boost to your luck stat.
Dependencies and addons
This mod requires installation on both the client and the server. Real talk, it supports Minecraft 1.21.1 on Fabric and Neoforge.
You need two required dependencies on both loaders: Cobblemon and Radical Cobblemon Trainers API. If you play on Fabric, you must also install Forge Config API Port.
The project supports data packs and custom configs. If you want badge loot tables, you can add one official badge data pack for Cobblemon Pokemon Badges, PKGBadges, or Elemental Effects Badges. Other compatible addons include Radical Gyms & Structures for spawned gym buildings, Run and Bun for custom battle AI, Trainer Texture Pack for alternate skins, and Cobblemon: Mega Showdown for mega evolution features. Fabric players can also use ToolTipFix if Trainer Card text boxes run off the screen.
Known issues
Three specific mod conflicts are documented for this release. First, trainers will fail to spawn if Convenient Decors is installed. Second, picking up trainers with Carry On breaks the spawn system and prevents trainers from being removed cleanly. Third, the direction arrow on the Trainer Card doesn't render if you enable emissive textures inside Continuity.
