What It Does

SimpleTMs is an addon for Cobblemon that brings Technical Machines and Technical Records into the game. Instead of relying only on leveling or breeding, you can hand a Pokemon a TM or TR and teach it a specific move directly. It's built for players running Cobblemon who want more control over movesets without waiting on random level-up learns.

Core TM and TR Mechanics

TMs are reusable. Each one starts with 32 uses and can be repaired with diamond blocks in an anvil once it runs low. TRs work the same way in principle but break after a single use, so they're more of a one-shot tool. Look, both item types show tooltips with the move's description and type before you commit to using them. By default, a Pokemon can only learn a move from a TM or TR if that move is in its TM, Tutor, or Egg move groups, so you can't just teach anything to anything.

There's also a blank version of each item. A blank TM or TR lets you pick a Pokemon from your party and imprint one of its own known moves onto the item, turning it into a usable TM or TR for that move. By default any move can be imprinted this way.

Storage Tools

Carrying a pile of TMs and TRs gets messy fast, so the mod adds two storage options. The TM Case and TR Case are portable items, one per player, that work like a personal ender chest. Your collection stays with the case even if it's lost or destroyed, and the tooltip shows how much of your collection is stored. For shared setups there's the TM Machine, a placeable block that holds both TMs and TRs in one interface and works like a normal chest that anyone can access.

Getting TMs and TRs

You can craft blank TMs and TRs from recipes the mod defines. They also turn up in loot chests found in vanilla structures such as villages and ruined portals, with the type of TR tied to where you found it, for example Nether chests lean toward Fire-type drops. The main source, though, is Pokemon themselves. TRs, and more rarely TMs, can drop when a Pokemon faints. In battle you get to pick one of four random moves from its learnset, while fainting a Pokemon outside battle gives you a random move automatically. By default, TRs drop about 10 percent of the time and TMs about 1 percent of the time. If you also run the Pokeloot datapack, that adds further ways to find TMs and TRs.

Compatibility and Requirements

SimpleTMs needs to be installed on both the client and the server, it's not a client-only visual addon. But it supports the NeoForge and Fabric loaders on Minecraft 1.21.1, and as a Cobblemon addon it depends on having Cobblemon and Architectury API installed alongside it. The mod is released under the Mozilla Public License 2.0.
