Cryonic Config

van Slainlight

A lightweight config library for mod developers that stores settings as JSON files and syncs values to players through chat messages.

Onze samenvatting

Wat dit project doet

What Cryonic Config does for mod developers Cryonic Config is a library mod that gives other mods a simple way to handle configuration. It writes each mod's settings to a JSON file in the config folder using the mod ID as the filename. A central index file called cryonicconfig.json tracks everything on early initialization. The library supports integers, doubles, booleans, and strings. You call a getter with a variable name and a default value, and the library creates the entry if it doesn't exist. You can also set values directly when you need to override something. There's no GUI for editing configs. Players and server admins edit the JSON files by hand. ## How sync works across client and server Config values exist on both sides by default. When a server needs a connected player to use the server's value for a specific variable, the mod calls a sync method with the variable name and the player entity. The library sends the value to that player through a chat message and intercepts it on the client side so the player never sees the message. This approach avoids the need for custom network packets and keeps the dependency footprint small. ## Supported loaders and Minecraft versions The mod runs on Fabric, Quilt, and NeoForge. It's marked as optional on both client and server, so a mod can include it without forcing players to install it on the other side. Verified Minecraft versions include 1.21.1 through 1.21.11, 1.21, and the 26.x snapshot series from 26.1 up to 26.3. A separate artifact exists for b1.7.3 under the name babric. ## Adding it to a project Developers add the Modrinth Maven repository to their build file and declare a dependency using the appropriate artifact ID for their loader and Minecraft version. The project uses the MIT license. In fabric.mod.json you add cryonicconfig as a dependency with a wildcard version. In mods.toml or neoforge.mods.toml you declare a required dependency with a version range starting at zero. ## Who this is for This library suits mod authors who want a no-frills config system that works across multiple loaders and versions without pulling in heavy dependencies. It isn't meant for end users directly. If you're a player looking for a config screen, this mod does not provide one.
