How idle throttling works
FPS Reducer is a performance mod that cuts down GPU and CPU usage while you are away from your game. Leaving a Minecraft client running at full speed draws unnecessary power. This extra workload also generates heat in your room and adds extra wear to your computer hardware.
The mod watches your window activity and user input. When you step away from the controls, or when you switch focus to another application, it automatically drops your game frame rate. You might leave your character running an automated farm or factory setup while you browse the web or work in another program. As soon as you provide any input, your game returns to its normal frame rate immediately.
Default timer and manual controls
You don't need to configure anything immediately after installing the mod. By default, if you don't touch any controls for 5 minutes, the mod lowers your frame rate to 10 frames per second.
Manual control is also available if you want to lower the frame rate on demand. Pressing the Pause key triggers the frame rate drop immediately without waiting for the idle timer. When you want to customize your setup, pressing the End key opens the configuration GUI by default.
Sound suppression and screen overlay
FPS Reducer includes audio suppression for background play. If your game window becomes inactive or stays minimized, the mod suppresses sound volume. This stops noisy farms or game sounds from playing loudly while you handle other tasks on your computer.
The mod also provides on-screen monitoring. Here's the thing, it can display your current frame rate directly on the screen edge. In addition, it can display the CPU usage of your client thread so you can track local performance.
Installation and compatibility details
FPS Reducer is a client-side mod created by bre2el. You don't need to install it on a dedicated server. In fact, server side is unsupported.
The project is published under an All Rights Reserved license, and the author permits players to include it in any modpacks. For mod loaders, it supports Neoforge, Fabric, Forge, and Quilt. The mod supports Minecraft versions 26.3, 26.2, 26.1.2, 26.1.1, and 26.1.
