What Gear Core Does
Gear Core is a library mod designed for other mod developers. But it provides the underlying framework for creating equipment modifiers. These are special properties you can attach to items like armor, tools, and weapons. The mod allows you to apply standard Minecraft entity attributes to gear. It also tracks specific in-game events, such as when a player takes damage, kills a mob, or mines a block.
The library is required on both the client and server sides. It works with the Fabric and Quilt mod loaders. Look, supported Minecraft versions are 1.19.3, 1.19.4, 1.20, and 1.20.1. It's released under the MIT License.
Gear Sets
A newer feature in Gear Core is the ability to create gear sets. This lets you define bonuses that activate when a player wears a specific combination of items. You can create these sets using datapacks. This means you don't need to write code for every new set. You can define tiers, custom formatting, and the specific items that count toward the set.
Gear sets can include attribute bonuses. For example, you can add a custom attribute that increases spell duration or amplifier. The mod automatically displays tooltips for active set bonuses. It also includes support for EMI, which shows the set items and descriptions in the inventory screen. Currently, attributes can be added strictly via datapack. Equipment modifiers referenced in gear sets must be created in code first.
Equipment Modifiers
Equipment modifiers are the core component of the library. They aren't affected by grindstones, enchanting tables, or other standard Minecraft features. This makes them persistent and distinct from enchantments. The modifiers use the Fzzy Core framework, which allows them to be arranged into lineages. Instead of simply stacking numbers, modifiers can pass from one item to the next.
Gear Core has built-in support for several item types. These include ArmorItem, ToolItem, BowItem, CrossBowItem, ShieldItem, TridentItem, and Trinket. The framework also allows you to make other item types modifiable with some additional setup.
Modification Capabilities
You can attach standard Minecraft attributes to equipment modifiers. These stack on top of the item's innate attributes and other modifications. You can also modify durability using a PerLvlI instance. This allows for flat changes or percentage changes to the item's durability.
The library supports several event types. Post-hit events fire after a player hits something. Post-mine events fire after a player breaks a block. On-use events fire when a player right-clicks an item, provided the item's innate use action isn't successful. You can also attach damage modification functions to handle incoming damage events.
Who It Is For
This mod isn't for end-users looking to change their gameplay directly. It's a tool for mod developers. If you're building a mod that involves custom gear, weapons, or armor with special properties, Gear Core handles the complex logic. It saves you from writing the event listeners and attribute application code from scratch. The project is currently under development, and the author maintains a wiki for detailed documentation.
