Void Totem

van Affehund

Void Totem adds a totem item that teleports you to the surface instead of letting you die when you fall into the void, for Forge, Fabric, and NeoForge.

Onze samenvatting

Wat dit project doet

What it does

Void Totem adds one item: a totem that stops you from dying when you fall out of the world. Carry it in your main hand or your offhand, and if you drop into the void, it teleports you back to the surface instead of letting the fall kill you. That's the whole idea behind the mod, one item, one job.

Who it's for

Anyone who plays with an elytra, builds high above bedrock, or runs a SkyBlock-style map will get the most use out of this. The mod's own notes call out two specific situations: an elytra breaking mid-flight over the End, and falling while building on a SkyBlock island. Both normally end the same way, a trip to the void and a lost run, sometimes with your inventory gone too.

How it works

Craft the totem and hold it in your main hand or offhand. When you fall into the void, the totem triggers and puts you back on solid ground instead of letting the fall kill you. That's the entire feature set described by the project. There's no second item, no upgrade tier, no extra mechanic layered on top.

Setup

Void Totem needs to be installed on both the client and the server. It isn't a client-only cosmetic tweak and it isn't a server-only addition either, both sides need it running for the totem to actually work in a world.

Compatibility

It's built for three loaders: NeoForge, Fabric, and Forge. Here's the thing, on the Minecraft side, it's confirmed for 1.21.1, 1.20.1, 1.20, and 1.19.4. Those are four specific point releases, not a continuous range, so don't assume a version in between is supported just because it falls numerically inside that spread.

License

The mod ships under the GNU General Public License v3.0, so the source is open for anyone who wants to read through it or build something on top of it.

Where it fits

On Modrinth it's filed under Equipment, Transportation, and Utility & Quality of Life. That's a fair read of it: it's gear you hold, it moves you when it triggers, and its entire purpose is removing one specific, annoying way to lose a run.
