Overview
Blazing Bamboo is a building and decoration mod that also touches world generation and quality of life. But it adds a new bamboo species found growing in the Nether's crimson forests, one that has adapted to survive fire, lava, and even ghast fireballs. The mod runs on both Forge and Fabric, and it needs to be installed on the client and on the server, so it isn't something you can add client side only.
What it adds
The plant glows and carries a yellow color, which makes a patch easy to spot from a distance. That glow isn't just for show. Get too close and the plant deals fire damage, so harvesting it takes a bit of care. Once you've collected it, you can turn it into blaze rods, burn it as furnace fuel, or build lava rafts that let you cross lava the way a boat lets you cross water. Real talk, the mod also adds a line of decorative blocks in both stone and wood styles, and every block and item it adds is fire resistant, lava proof, and ghast proof.
Where it grows
Blazing bamboo grows in patches that are uncommon but large, and it takes root on stone and dry soil in any dimension, not just the Nether. Water is the one thing it can't handle. Rain, snow, or nearby water kills it fast. Even then, the harvest isn't wasted: dead bamboo crumbles into gunpowder, so a ruined patch still gives you something useful.
Who it suits
This is a good fit for players who want a renewable way to get blaze rods and gunpowder without raiding a Nether fortress every time they run low. It also suits builders looking for fireproof decoration pieces for Nether-themed builds, since the stone and wood block sets won't burn or melt near lava.
Crafting and tools
If you run Just Enough Items, Blazing Bamboo's recipes show up in JEI, so you can check what each item crafts into without digging through a wiki. The Fabric build of the mod requires Fabric API to work. A mod is released under the MIT license, which means you're free to use it, modify it, or bundle it into a modpack.
Compatibility
Blazing Bamboo currently supports Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge and Fabric, and both the client and server need the mod installed for it to work correctly.
