What the mod does
You don't always remember what every enchantment in Minecraft does. Enchantment Descriptions is a client-side mod that adds brief informational text to item tooltips. When you hover over enchanted books or enchanted items in your inventory, you see a short description explaining what those enchantment effects actually do.
The mod fits into the Magic and Utility & Quality of Life categories on Modrinth. It's required on the client side to display the tooltip text in your game. Server side installation is optional, so you can join servers without forcing the server host to install it.
Modded enchantment support
You aren't limited to default vanilla enchantments. Modded enchantments can work with Enchantment Descriptions, and many third-party mods already come with built-in support. When you add other mods that introduce new enchantments, their effects can appear with tooltip descriptions just like vanilla books.
If you come across a modded enchantment that does not show a description in its tooltip, you can ask for help. Darkhax accepts support requests for missing descriptions on the project issue tracker.
Screen boundaries and tooltip fixes
On some setups, long tooltip text can extend past the edge of your screen. This behavior comes from a vanilla bug that affects Fabric users. Forge users don't experience this issue because Forge has a built-in patch for the problem.
If you play on Fabric and your tooltips go off the screen, you will need a separate patch mod. The author recommends a mod like ToolTipFix to resolve the issue on Fabric installations.
Adding custom descriptions
You can add your own descriptions for enchantments that don't have them yet. Enchantment Descriptions reads its text directly from the localization map. To add support for an enchantment, you add an entry to your language localization file.
The mod expects a specific key format: enchantment.%MOD_ID%.%ENCH_ID%.desc. Replace %MOD_ID% with the identifier of the mod and %ENCH_ID% with the specific enchantment identifier. Once the entry is in place, the mod picks it up and shows the text on the tooltip.
