What the mod does
Just Enough Items is an item and recipe viewing mod created by mezz. So it lets you inspect crafting formulas and see what ingredients can make. The project runs under the MIT License without coremod modifications.
Both client and server installations are optional. You can also include it freely in modpacks.
Viewing items and recipes
Hovering over an item and pressing R opens its recipes. Pressing U shows what recipes require that item. Honestly, clicking an item in the list also shows its recipes, and right-clicking shows its uses.
A dedicated recipe screen lets you scroll across pages with your mouse wheel. Clicking a category name shows every recipe in that group. When crafting, clicking the plus button moves items into the crafting grid. Shift-clicking that plus button transfers multiple item sets at once.
If you want to clear your screen, pressing Control and O hides or shows the item list overlay.
Search controls and filters
The search bar rests at the bottom of your item list. Click it or press Control and F to start typing. Right-clicking the bar clears your text, and the up arrow restores your previous search.
You can filter items with specific prefix symbols: Type an at symbol before a word to search by mod name. Type a hash symbol before a word to search tooltips only. Type a dollar sign before a word to search by OreDict name. Type a percent sign before a word to search by creative tab.
You can combine terms to narrow things down. Putting a minus sign before a term excludes matches. Placing quotation marks around words searches phrases with spaces. You can also separate multiple queries with a vertical bar.
Cheat and edit modes
Cheat mode lets you grab items quickly. Left-clicking an entry gives you a full stack, and right-clicking gives you a single item. Dropping an item into the list deletes it.
Edit mode hides unwanted entries from the catalog. Control-clicking hides a single item. Control-right-clicking hides an item and its sub-items. Holding Control and Shift while clicking hides all items from that mod.
Server requirements and limitations
On Minecraft 1.21.1 or lower, you can play on a vanilla server with JEI on the client alone. That setup disables the plus button recipe transfer, item deletion, and cheating items with heavy NBT data.
Starting in Minecraft 1.21.2, recipes live on the server. You need to install JEI along with NeoForge or Fabric on the server to sync recipes to your client.
