Dynamic food assembly and simmering
Vanilla cooking usually comes down to clicking a recipe in a menu. Soups & Sandwiches changes that dynamic by letting you assemble meals piece by piece.
Sandwiches don't use fixed crafting grid outputs. Instead, you arrange ingredients like sliced meats, vegetables, and condiments between bread on a cutting board. The game checks the layers you stacked and names the meal. Putting bacon, lettuce, and tomato on standard bread creates a BLT. Swapping the bread for a sub roll turns it into a BLT Sub, and adding cheese updates the dish further. There are 30 distinct named sandwiches, including the Reuben, Philly Cheesesteak, Patty Melt, and Club. If you assemble an unrecognized combination, you still get a valid Plain Sandwich. Food icons even reflect their ingredients with dynamic color bands.
Hot meals require a stock pot. You fill the pot with water, place ingredients inside, and maintain heat beneath it. Soups cook only while heated over time. Leaving soup on the fire for a minute or two after finishing improves it, but heating it too long yields Burnt Slop. The mod includes 15 distinct soups. Some provide specific survival perks. Chicken Noodle Soup clears poison and hunger, French Onion Soup lasts twice as long, and Chili con Carne prevents you from freezing in powder snow.
Crops, dairy, and food preparation
Beyond finished meals, the mod adds 102 items to support a complete pantry. You can grow ten new crops: tomato, lettuce, cucumber, cabbage, celery, bell pepper, chili, onion, garlic, and corn. Real talk, salt can be extracted from underground mineral deposits or collected by boiling down water.
Dairy processing starts by milking a cow into a glass bottle. You work a manual churn to turn milk into cream and butter, curdle it into cheese, and age the wheels on a drying rack. That same rack also produces beef jerky and prosciutto.
Requirements and compatibility
Soups & Sandwiches is developed by emurphy04 under the MIT License. It runs on the Fabric mod loader for Minecraft version 26.2. Both client and server installations are required to play.
