What It Adds
Cobble Contests is a side mod built for Cobblemon. It bolts a Pokemon contest system onto the base game, the kind of thing longtime Pokemon players will recognize from the handheld titles. You won't find flashy multiplayer tournaments yet. What you get is a working foundation: craft poffins, feed your Pokemon, then put them up against the judges.
Poffins and Stats
The core loop runs through a poffin pot. Honestly, drop in berries and poffin dough and you get poffins, items that raise a Pokemon's contest stats when you feed them. The math behind this follows the Generation 4 poffin mechanics and values, so if you remember cooking in Diamond and Pearl, this will feel familiar.
There's a wrinkle though. Burn a poffin and end up with a foul one, and in the handheld games that mostly just meant a wasted ingredient. Here, feeding a foul poffin actively hurts your Pokemon. It knocks down both stats and sheen instead of doing nothing. Mess up your cooking and you pay for it twice.
Entering Contests
Once your Pokemon is primed, you bring it to a contest booth to enter. Right now the judging is simple. Contests check stats and that's it, there's no appeal phase or crowd reaction system layered on top yet. The author has said plans exist for contests that are more interactive and support multiple players, but none of that is built yet. Treat this as an early-stage contest layer, not the full package.
A contest card rounds out the toolkit. Open it to check a Pokemon's stats and its ribbons from past contests. The card also lists moves, though moves aren't tied into contest judging yet. It's there for reference rather than function at this stage.
Who This Is For
If you're running a Cobblemon server and want a side activity beyond battling and catching, this gives your players something to grind toward. Breeders and collectors who liked the contest minigame in the mainline Pokemon games will get the most out of it. Anyone expecting a one-to-one recreation of the console contest halls, with appeals and audience meters, should wait. This mod covers the groundwork: poffins, stats, and a booth to show them off.
Compatibility
Cobble Contests needs Cobblemon installed since it's a side mod, not a standalone experience. It supports NeoForge and Fabric, and both the client and the server need it running since it's not a client-only or server-only addon. On the version side, it's built for Minecraft 1.21.1. The project is released under the MIT license, so the source is open for anyone who wants to look under the hood.
