What Ctrl Q does
Ctrl Q is a small utility mod with a narrow purpose. It forces the Ctrl key to be used when you drop a stack of items, so the shortcut becomes Ctrl+Q.
On Modrinth it's filed under Utility & Quality of Life.
Why Mac players use it
The mod overrides the macOS Cmd key behavior when you drop a stack of items. In doing so, it skips the Cmd+Q macOS shortcut.
That makes this a macOS fix first and foremost. Here's the thing, according to the author, the mod is basically useless for people who don't play on macOS. If you are on Windows or Linux, you can safely pass on it.
Client and server
The mod is required on the client side. Server side is listed as unsupported, so you install it on your own game and not on a server.
Loaders and Minecraft versions
The supported loaders are Fabric, NeoForge and Forge.
The Minecraft versions declared on the project are 1.21.10, 1.21.9, 1.21.5, 1.21.4, 1.21.3, 1.21.2, 1.21.1, 1.21, 1.20.6, 1.20.4, 1.20.3, 1.20.2, 1.20.1, 1.20, 1.19.4 and 1.19.3.
This is a list of individual versions, not a continuous range. A version missing from the list isn't one the project declares.
Status and the end of the road
The author says the mod is still supported and simply doesn't require updates.
Its usefulness is ending anyway. Since snapshot 25w41a, the Minecraft bug tracked as MC-22882 has been patched. Because of that, the mod is no longer required for 1.21.11 and later.
The repository describes its latest release as the final version of the mod, made for 1.21.9 and 1.21.10. In that note, the author thanks everyone who used the mod. They also say they'll try to fix issues with past versions if you open one.
License and links
Ctrl Q is released under the MIT License. The GitHub repository also points to a CurseForge page for the mod.
Should you install it
Install it if you play on a Mac and your game version appears in the list above, and you want Ctrl+Q to drop stacks without running into the Cmd+Q shortcut. Skip it if you aren't on macOS. Skip it as well if you're on 1.21.11 or later, since MC-22882 has been patched and the mod is no longer required there.
