This is a client-side Minecraft mod that allows you to selectively disable certain types of fog in the game. By removing specific fog effects, you can enhance visibility and tailor your visual experience without affecting server-side behavior.
Toggleable Fog Types
The mod provides individual control over seven distinct fog types:
- Terrain Fog: Removes the fog that depends on drawing distance, which normally hides chunk boundaries.
- Atmospheric Fog: Eliminates sky fog in the Overworld and thick fog in the Nether.
- Lava Fog: Clears fog within lava for better visibility when navigating lava lakes or streams.
- Water Fog: Removes underwater fog to improve sight while submerged.
- Powder Snow Fog: Eliminates the visual fog effect when inside powder snow blocks.
- Blindness Fog: Disables the fog overlay caused by the blindness status effect.
- Darkness Fog: Removes the fog associated with the darkness effect, such as that triggered by wardens in deep dark biomes.
Default Behavior and Configuration
By default, the mod disables terrain fog and atmospheric fog upon installation. All other fog types remain enabled by default but can be toggled individually through the configuration system. Each fog type can be adjusted independently, and you can set different values per dimension to suit various environments.
Per-Dimension Settings
Each dimension in Minecraft can independently override the global fog settings. If a dimension’s setting is configured as "DEFAULT", it inherits the value from the global configuration. And this system automatically supports dimensions added by other mods, ensuring compatibility with modded content.
Configuration System
Starting with version 2.0.0, the mod includes a built-in configuration screen that works across all supported mod loaders without requiring additional mods.
- For Fabric and Quilt: Install ModMenu to access the configuration screen in-game.
- For Forge and NeoForge: No additional mods are needed; simply select the mod from the mod list and click the "Config" button.
Legacy Version Support
For versions of the mod below 2.0.0, the built-in configuration screen isn't available. Honestly, to adjust settings on these older releases, you must install both ClothConfig and ModMenu to configure the mod in-game.
Compatibility and Requirements
Disable Fog is a client-side only mod. It doesn't require installation on the server and has no effect on server-side gameplay or performance. The mod is compatible with the following mod loaders: Fabric, Quilt, Forge, and NeoForge. It supports a range of Minecraft versions including 26.3, 26.3-rc-2, 26.3-pre-2, 26.3-snapshot-5, 26.3-snapshot-3, and 26.2. The mod is distributed under an All Rights Reserved license.
Use Cases
This mod is particularly useful for players seeking clearer vision in challenging environments, such as deep oceans, lava-filled caves, snowy biomes, or dark areas affected by status effects. It also helps reduce visual clutter caused by fog that may interfere with building, exploration, or screenshot capture.
