This is an unofficial fork of the Phosphor mod ported to Legacy Forge. It brings JellySquid's Phosphor optimizations to Forge versions for Minecraft 1.8.9, 1.8.8, 1.11.2, 1.11, 1.10.2, 1.10, and 1.9.4.
Mod Compatibility
The mod is optional on both client and server sides. It has been tested with OptiFine, Dynamic Lights, LiteLoader, Essential, Patcher, and other coremods. Phosphor Legacy Forge includes Mixin 0.7.11 and should work with other mods using Mixin 0.7. If crashes occur with LiteLoader, ensure LiteLoader is placed in the mods folder and loads after Mixin 0.7/0.8 mods. Do not install LiteLoader with Forge as a library.
Incompatibility
Phosphor Legacy Forge isn't compatible with Legacy SpongeForge due to invalid mixin crashes caused by SpongeForge's outdated Mixin versions.
How It Works
Phosphor optimizes Minecraft's lighting engine through several key improvements. The code responsible for propagating light changes has been rewritten to be more efficient than the vanilla implementation. Light updates are postponed until the regions they modify are queried, allowing batching and reducing duplicate scheduled light updates. This decreases CPU time spent on skylight propagation.
Skylight propagation on the vertical axis has been fixed to account for incoming skylight from neighboring chunks, resolving lighting issues during world generation and large block operations such as /fill. Here's the thing, chunk lighting is only performed after all adjacent chunks are loaded, ensuring correct light spread into neighbors and preventing visual errors.
By fixing various errors in vanilla's lighting engine implementation, many checks performed when relighting blocks are now skipped, reducing the overhead of lighting updates.
