Overview
Transparent is a client-side modification for Minecraft that expands the visual capabilities of resource packs. It allows pack creators to apply textures containing transparent or translucent pixels to specific in-game entities. This mod is purely visual; it doesn't alter game logic or mechanics. By installing Transparent, users can customize the appearance of objects like armor stands and paintings to match their preferred aesthetic style.
Supported Entities
The mod supports a specific list of entities, with transparency enabled by default for most of them. The supported entities and their default status are as follows:
- Armor Stand: Enabled by default (Minecraft 1.19.4+).
- End Crystal: Enabled by default.
- End Crystal Beam: Enabled by default (Minecraft 1.21+).
- Item Frame: Enabled by default.
- Painting: Enabled by default.
- Player Cape: Enabled by default (Minecraft 1.21+).
- Player Armor: Enabled by default (Minecraft 1.21+).
Beacon Beams are supported but disabled by default. The author notes that enabling transparency for beacon beams can cause render layer bugs. If you require support for an entity not listed here, you can request it via the project's Discord or GitHub Issues.
Configuration
You can override the default transparency settings by adding a configuration file to your resource pack. Create a file named transparent.json in the /assets/transparent/ directory of your resource pack. The file should contain boolean values for each entity, as shown in this example:
{
"armor_stand": true,
"beacon_beam": false,
"end_crystal": true,
"end_crystal_beam": true,
"item_frame": true,
"painting": true,
"player_cape": true,
"player_armor": true
}
Setting a value to true enables transparency for that entity, while false disables it. After modifying the file, reload your resource pack or restart the client to apply the changes.
Compatibility and Licensing
Transparent is compatible with Minecraft versions 1.21.3, 1.21.4, and 1.21.5. It supports the Fabric, Quilt, and Neoforge mod loaders. The mod is required on the client side and is unsupported on the server side. Honestly, it's released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only. And the mod officially supports the Paintings++ mod, allowing its enhanced painting features to use transparent textures.
Getting Started
- Install Transparent using your preferred mod loader (Fabric, Quilt, or Neoforge).
- Install or create a resource pack that includes transparent textures for the entities you wish to modify.
- Optionally, add a
transparent.jsonfile to your resource pack to customize which entities are transparent. - Launch Minecraft and enjoy the customized visuals.
