How to apply a trim

  1. Open a smithing table.
  2. Put the trim template in the first slot, the armor piece in the second and the trim material in the third.
  3. Take the trimmed armor. The template and the material are used up; enchantments and durability stay.

Use a smithing table: trim template in the first slot, armor in the second, trim material in the third. Both the template and the material are used up.
There are 18 trim patterns and 11 trim materials: amethyst, copper, diamond, emerald, gold, iron, lapis, netherite, quartz, redstone and resin. Any pattern works with any material on any trimmable armor piece.
Craft the template with 7 diamonds and the block that matches it (for example mossy cobblestone for Wild or netherrack for Rib). You get 2 templates back, so each craft adds one.
When the trim material matches the armor (copper, diamond, gold, iron or netherite), the game uses a darker palette so the trim stays visible. The preview shows this too.

No. Bedrock /give cannot set trims or leather color, so the commands are for Java 1.20 and newer. Pick your Java version so the syntax matches.
