How to build it

Start at layer 1, the bottom, and work upward. Each layer is a circle, so the blueprint works exactly like the circle generator: find the center, place the rows, move up one block. A block is part of the sphere when its center lies inside the sphere; hollow shells keep only blocks that touch the outside on a face, so the shell is watertight.

A sphere is a stack of circles that grow toward the middle and shrink again. Each layer here is one horizontal slice, one block tall. Build them in order from the bottom, keeping every layer centered on the same column.
Solid fills the whole volume. Hollow keeps only the outer shell, which uses far fewer blocks and leaves room inside for a build. The hollow shell is face connected, so it holds water and mobs cannot slip through the gaps.
Choose Dome. It keeps the top half of the sphere, including the middle layer on odd sizes, so it sits flat on the ground. A hollow dome is open at the bottom, like a real roof.

That happens with even diameters: the center of the sphere is between two layers, so both are the widest. Odd diameters have a single widest middle layer.
