Cape Provider

What it does Cape Provider is a Fabric mod that puts capes on players. It ships with a selection of built-in providers and gives you several ways to add your own. The mod runs entirely on the client and doesn't require server support. It's a rework of the older Capes mod, rewritten in Java without Kotlin, and includes fixes and a more flexible provider system. ## Provider options You can choose from the built-in providers or add custom ones in three main ways. The simplest method is a local provider: drop a cape.png file into config/cape-provider and optionally add owners.txt to restrict who sees it and name.txt to set a display name. Additional local providers go in config/cape-provider/simple-custom as separate folders. For remote sources, edit config/cape-provider/config.json and add entries under remoteCustomProviders with an id, name, and uriTemplate. The template can use $id, $name, or $idNoHyphen placeholders to serve per-player textures. The mod also supports texture resolvers for animated capes, including a sprite sheet PNG resolver and a GIF resolver, though GIFs are noted as heavier on resources. Mod developers can embed capes directly in their own mods by adding metadata to fabric.mod.json and placing textures in a cape resource directory. This works for both local and remote capes and mirrors how Mod Menu handles mod metadata. ## Configuration and limits The config file controls provider ordering, activation, and texture resolver selection. Animated textures can be frozen or disabled entirely in the settings. Image files larger than 10 MB may be ignored. ## Compatibility The mod requires the Fabric loader and is marked as client-side required with server-side unsupported. Supported Minecraft versions are listed as 26.3, 26.3-rc-2, 26.3-rc-3, 26.2, and 26.1.2.
