Faster Random

di AnOpenSauceDev

Faster Random swaps Minecraft's default random generators with Java 17 LXM algorithms on Fabric, Quilt, and Neoforge. Now archived, it is intended only for existing worlds.

Il nostro riassunto

Cosa fa questo progetto

Overview and RNG Mechanics

Faster Random modifies Minecraft's underlying random number infrastructure by replacing legacy generators, such as CheckedRandom and related systems, with the LXM generators introduced in Java 17. The mod focuses specifically on slower generator routines within the game. These target areas include the placement and generation of world structures, features, and carvers, along with client-side processes like dropped item behaviors. Faster Random leaves Minecraft's faster random generators unaltered, while also incorporating a fix for the vanilla bug MC-239059.

The technical design relies on how Minecraft manages random number instances. While Java 17 LXM generators require more time to construct initially on most systems, generating successive numbers is faster. Because the game frequently reuses generator instances after creation, it avoids repeated construction overhead. Potential world generation benefits remain dependent on hardware conditions, as setups may encounter RAM or disk storage bottlenecks when handling chunk data, making any observable difference situational.

Project Archival and World Parity

The project author, AnOpenSauceDev, officially archived Faster Random on 2025-12-27. This project no longer receives public updates. A developer recommends using this mod exclusively for worlds that were previously generated with Faster Random to preserve generation parity.

Using the mod on new worlds is discouraged due to conflicting performance outcomes across varied hardware. Because random calculations occupy limited CPU processing time, speed improvements may be negligible or indistinguishable from a placebo. Players and server administrators who wish to inspect generator performance directly can run the included test mod, which provides benchmarks for individual generator methods.

Java Runtime Requirements

Running Faster Random requires a Java Virtual Machine that supports Java 17 RandomGenerator and the LXM family of algorithms. Most standard JVM installations provide these generators by default. Honestly, however, almost every headless JDK variant omits LXM generator support. If an incompatible runtime is used, the game may crash or the JVM may force the mod to disable itself. Modpack creators and server operators should confirm that their Java environment includes working LXM classes before installation.

Platform and Version Support

Faster Random is published under the Apache License 2.0. It's optional on both the client side and the server side. The mod provides compatibility with the Fabric, Quilt, and Neoforge mod loaders.

The mod supports the following discrete Minecraft releases: 1.21.1, 1.21, 1.20.6, 1.20.5, 1.20.4, 1.20.3, 1.20.2, 1.20.1, 1.20, 1.19.4, 1.19.3, 1.19.2, 1.19.1, 1.19, and 1.20.5-pre1.
